Changzhou-New Energy City in China

Changzhou is located in the core area of the Yangtze River Delta-one of the three most economically developed regions in China, one hour away from Shanghai by high-speed rail. In the new energy industry, there is a saying going like that “the world looks at China and China looks at Changzhou”.

Whether in the new energy generation of solar photovoltaic, wind energy, hydrogen energy field, or new energy storage of power, energy storage battery field, or new energy transmission and distribution equipment field, as well as the new energy use of charging, new energy vehicles, energy Internet field, Changzhou has been on the industrial manufacturing high point and has a clear competitive advantage.

Since the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, the new energy vehicle has achieved a significant breakthrough from “none to existence” and “from existence to excellent”, and there are currently four new energy vehicle production enterprises, such as Li Auto and BYD. In 2021, the city’s new energy vehicles and auto key parts industry completed an output value of 131.05 billion yuan, an increase of 71.4% year-on-year. In the first half of 2022, the new energy vehicles and auto core parts industry output value of 88.99 billion yuan, an increase of 51.9%, the output value of about 12.7% of the city’s total industrial output value above the scale.

As the world’s largest power battery centre, Changzhou is the first in the country in terms of power battery shipments, with the annual output value accounting for one-third of the national share and two-thirds of Jiangsu Province.

StarCharge is a well-known domestic charging pile research and development production enterprise, that successfully developed 500kW (kilowatt) high-power charging equipment, a millisecond grid emergency rescue system and a number of the latest achievements at the leading international level. According to the data of China Charging Union, StarCharge has invested in the construction of more than 150,000 charging piles, and the number of charging piles accounts for more than 18% of the domestic market, ranking third in China, and the daily charging volume ranks first in China.

Changzhou PV industry chain is complete, basically covering all manufacturing links of the PV industry chain except for upstream polysilicon material, and a number of representative enterprises in China have emerged with Trina Solar and Orient Sunrise as leaders. The scale of the industry ranks at the forefront in China, Changzhou PV enterprise’s existing cell capacity of 36.8GW, and module capacity of 54GW, are at the forefront of the province, and production capacity in China accounted for about 10%. Data show that in 2021, the city’s photovoltaic manufacturing industry achieved an output value of 77 billion yuan, up 24.7% year-on-year. In the first half of 2022, the photovoltaic industry completed an output value of 42.15 billion yuan, up 23.6% year-on-year.

Changzhou is making every effort to create a national new energy industry cluster with systematic thinking, to build a new energy capital that is leading in China and internationally known, and to make more contributions to the development of new energy and energy security in the world.
